As much as I love my kids it is nice every once in a great while to have a little break and just spend time with my wife. This used to be a big point of guilt for both of us due to the number of hours that we were both working. Now, it's still difficult to leave those beautiful little faces at home, but we both know that it is needed and that it is necessary for a strong marriage.
Where does our little adventure bring us? Back to Bend, Oregon. It's a fairly quick drive from Boise. If you obey the speed limit, roughly 5 and 1/2 hours, if you don't, 4 hour and 15 minutes. If you've never been to Bend its not what you expect after several hours of high desert scenery. As you crest the last hill, there it is, nestled against the Deschutes river with Mt. Bachelor and Mt. Jefferson as the backdrop.
It's quite amazing what Bend has to offer as a smaller, resort-type town, yet at 90,000 people, you almost have to expect it. Bend offers world class fly-fishing, skiing, mountain biking, hiking and rafting. One of the more unbelievable things is that it offers 18 different breweries and yes, that number is correct. More breweries per capita than any other city in the U.S.
Tonight, we find ourselves doing a little tasting at Boneyard Brewing which happens to be a little, humble warehouse, just outside of the downtown corridor. It really was not what I was expecting but the people were very friendly and the beer was great. Their signature is a big hoppy IPA called Hop Venom, which we also found to be a marinade for a number of items at Brother Jon's Alehouse in downtown Bend.
That's it for now, going to go enjoy some good conversation with my bride and watch the snow gently falling in the background of this beautiful setting.
Cheers
